I love Thievery Corp...yet, I am of the Doors decade and prefer the old version...some stuff shouldn't be messed with.
Strange remixes have found us.
Don't ever want hear this again! In another day & age I'd attribute scatterbrained shite like this to excessive use of powdered cocaine. Today, I can't be sure... maybe cellphones DO actually scramble the brainwaves,  but it's the link between SUBSTANCE ABUSE / MUSICAL ABUSE is clearly evident here. Bear don't lissen' to no freakin remixers!

Oh no. The Lizard King has been turned into a Euro Trash Lounge Lizard
without trying to be mean about it, I wonder at what point this track gets pulled from the RP playlist....average rating is 4.9 with 349 total rates; hmmmm.....I even feel I over-rated it because it's a Doors song...and well my 6 is coming down to a 5 now.

I'd be more than happy for this track to be replaced with the Sonia Dada track (I tried to upload and got an immediate rejection) "You Don't Treat Me No Good."
eek.. this must be the elevator music they use in that hotel Sartre wrote about in Huis Clos.

No point in me posting as you have said what I was going to say (but more eloquently).

As a big fan of The Doors 6 studio albums, and the many live recordings I've heard over the years, I'd rate the  original song a 9, and this combination only a 6.  Not sure yet if I dig it or not.  I did like your pun though {#Fire}
The Anoushka Shankar track off this album that is also played at RP is pretty darn good, but this track is just middle of the road. How's the rest of the album I wonder?
Two good things that don't go great together.

TURNING OFF R.P. NOW!
damned good interpretation of this song !!!

Love It!!!
pretty cool if you ask me{#Cowboy}
woof this is bad  : (
Ouch.
Thievery Corp is otherwise always OK or good.
Not here. I'm going with a 3 because, you know, it's sort of more Jim Morrison than a messy mash up.
This corporation is like the product of so many other corporations in this country. Mediocre junk passed off as creative excellence.

On the other hand, this being the day before Mr. T is installed on his throne as if he's our messiah, it's a mash up of strange fucking days indeed.

must be in a good mood today....moved from SUCKO BARFO to MARGINAL.  might have to play lottery tonite
Never liked Jim Morrison vocals...this is even worse
Wow, not sure I've ever seen so many 1s before. Well good for you Bill for not being afraid to sneak in and tip the occasional sacred cow. Not a fave, but I'll give it a 6 for the hoot factor.   {#Tongue}
Sorry, but this is just wrong.
Love it!  Instant 9
Quite surprising to hear at first.
But then, it's like, hey, why not? ... as long as we don't forget the original.
Love both The Doors and Thievery but unfortunately this amalgamation simply does not work. Pity.
Funny, I actually thought the version with Jim Morrison's distorted voice was a remix.  In comparison this version is, well, boring.
lyrically spot on for today
WTF is this abomination? This song doesn't need any "enhancements". Really who thought this a good idea?
ugh.  Sanitizes the original too much.  Not groovy at all.
RP really was my favorite station - until it turned into an sad, melancholic, depressing endless loop.
Every time I play RP in my office, my co-workers get annoyed!
I like both bands quite a bit.
this is a solid 'NOT'.
Sometimes a dance beat is.........just a dance beat. Enjoy it old folks.
Oh how I wish there was a zero or, better yet, negative numbers' option.

{#Stop}
Why can't I leave this Fecking POS a negative 10 for insulting the Doors this badly?

So a copy done pretty close to the original, but using a monotonous groove, and less emotion and soul, is better because....?
Great tune
Indeed!
What the Doors wish they could have recorded.
I love both these bands, however this is a poor mix up....disappointed and disillusioned. I am surprised you cant see this.
I like the Doors and I like the Thievery Corporation but I'm not sure about this? I think I owe it to both bands to give it a second listen before forming an opinion. However I'm not optimistic.
Very interesting.  Is that really an extracted Jim Morrison voice track mixed in or another singer?  If it is a voice track, did they have access to the original unmixed tapes or is it computer extracted from the mixed song?

Despite writing this back in 2007, I inexplicably rated it a 1.  I think maybe I rated it first, being initially shocked at the blasphemous mashup, then got into the groove and wrote that I liked it.  Who knows?  I'm increasing my rating to 7.

8 years wasn't quite long enough. Reconsider playing this song in 2024 please.

Not for me.  How about some Jive Bunny?
"Thievery" for sure, Jim Morrison is rolling over in his grave.
Tres cool.  Thanks Bill.

you forgot to say ... "and with really terrible taste in music." Otherwise, your comment is spot on. This is one of the worst things I've heard on RP. Jim Morrison was not a lounge singer. Puke-tastic.

That's exactly how I feel too. Thank you for wording it. :)
It's kind of fun. My volume was turned down and my first thought was Interpol, or someone who sounded like Jim Morrison. Covering the Doors like this is hardly blasphemous.

LOL ... good one! I think that describes it perfectly.
too much doors today
I love the Thievery Corp and I love the Doors like I love cheese and chocolate ice cream. Both fantastic in their own right but mixed together they are puke inducing! Make it stop.

4.3? This should at least be 6.3

The original was a 4, but this makes it a 2.
I thought that this was one of the better tracks on Versions. Was pleasantly surprised to hear it on RP.

MORE Doors?? GAwd, hate his voice. Remix and put in different *&^*&%$# singer! MUTE! Can't take more.

That is an excellent simile.

i like this version
This almost makes the Doors sound cool.
This is just wrong on so many levels! Brother Jim is spinning in his grave!
Dreadful.
STOP IT! Stop gilding the lily. They're only succeeding at suffocating it.
NO!
Not many songs make me head for the volume knob but this one does. I also grew up with the Doors and that might be the reason I think this version sucks. However, I also grew up with Abba and the Eurythmics and have heard remixed versions of their songs that I thought were great.
squibbb wrote:
Love it! What can I say?
So do I - I'm astonished at all the sucko-barfo ratings, which has to be the most I've ever seen for a song on RP. Maybe it's folks who know the Doors original who loathe the remix. Luckily I've never heard the original so I can judge this on its own merits. 7 from the Nottingham jury.
Love it! What can I say?
its a cool concept, a nice try, but some things ought not be f*cked with. Can kinda see the club kids groovin on X to this tune. Jim would likely dig that.
3.8...? WTF....? This is great and Yes, I grew up with the Doors...
This really does not work in any form. How can the 'average' possibly be 3.8?
If Jim Morrison were alive today he'd be overweight, hair thinning, and would have his own reality TV show, and this would be his great comeback song. 7 Go Jim!
Omigosh, let's update the Doors to, say, 1985. Bill, why do you punish us so?
No thanks, the music does not compliment the singing at all - Jim needs the other Doors backing him in this case

I don't like the doors, really, other than a few songs, so when artists like TC make a doors song tolerable to me, I have to thank them. I would still like this is if was a TC original.
I hope this goes the way of The Coors version of Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams', also a 1 on my lowest rated; the suck-o-barfo meter is off the chart on that doozy!

Wow, this is so bad! This just doesn't work. There is nothing poetic about this version -completely misses the mark.

Just what it needed. It needed a lot.
Usually I like remakes - usually. Gets a 4 from me. I dunno, maybe I'm a purist when it comes to The Doors. IMHO their original sound was fantastic enough as it was; it stands alone. I'm just not sure how it could be improved upon, given their roots and time in history, messages, and the like. Opinions vary though.
Oddly likeable!

I poop on this.
This is a great album, but a particularly weak track/remix. Still gave a 6...it is Thievery Corporation, after all.
what a hoot!!! Making the Doors into doggerel. Sheesh.
Thievery is an understatement!!! This is blasphemy!!!
The question I ask of a cover (and a remix is a type of a cover) is: Does it contribute something, artistically, that is beyond what the original artist was able to bring forth? George Winston's rendition of Crystal Ship, for instance... while I did not personally care for it... brought something to the piece that the Doors had not. In regards of the Thievery Corporation's remix of the Doors' Strange DaysI find it not only to have added nothing, but to have diminished the song significantly. In short... it sucks!

I liked that one. But I have teenagers, so my definition of annoying may be different than yours.
it's tolerable..the doors were overrated as a band. so this is an improvement on the original.
Strange, indeed - makes Jim sound like Billy Idol (makes me communicate in emoticonese)
