EXCELLENT!  I never heard this cover before. Thanx RP!

And yes, Gordon Gano was being bad.  He's probably composing a song right this minute about how guilty and ashamed he feels. ;)
I <3 the Violent Femmes.

Shawn Colvin does it live.
I must admit, I really like the original, and most of the covers are very good but... I don't get it. Why are so many artists drawn to this song?
I really don't see how anybody can dislike this. Poll: do any of the haters otherwise like the Femmes? Or is the dislike directed specifically AT the Femmes? Because if that's the case, well. . .there's no accounting for taste!

I know, right?!  I was getting all geared up that too.....

Makes me appreciate Cee Lo even more ... {#Eek}

wtf
You MUST follow this with Gnarl's Barkley's version of Gone Daddy Gone!
Nope.
Well, Bill, you're certainly mixing it up today! {#Lol} And since when do the VF's have a flautist?

Edit: Well, it turns out they've historically worked with an array of woodwind/brass instrumentalists as guests... When I saw them at Shoreline a few years back, they were just guitar, xylophone, and snare drum. And yep, they rocked the house!

interesting cover
Definately out of character for VF, but I like it!
Thanks Bill, for another funny bone moment, especially after Pat Boone's version of *Enter Sandman*.....

Yes, but hating can be so much fun, especially when there is a song worthy of hate. I'll admit that his is some of the Femmes's best work, but that's not saying much.

NO!  Gnarls and Gnarls only!
Violent Femmes... the Oompah-oompah band of the 80's... horrid to start with.  Then, to cover Crazy? Blech.
These guys were crazy to cover this song!!

Me Too! This sucks though.
Wow...   Most of you need to lighten up. You'll live longer.     {#Tongue-out}
Very well done cover here. Equal parts recognizable and "they made it their own." And that's how good covers are done.

That said, I saw the Gnarls Barkley cover of Radiohead's Reckoner that everyone was raving about and it was horrid.
I was going to rate this lowly untill I saw it was Violent Femmes.  I'll be nice.
Transcendent. ;)

The Kooks have done a vivid version of Crazy for La Blogotheques "Take-away Shows". Live and in the streets of Paris.
You can find it on youtube!

I would love to know WHY.

worse than the original (which was pretty bad too)
This song kinda makes me happy. love the original!!!
This is just wrong.  Very wrong.  Violent Femmes, you did a bad thing.  A very bad thing.

I will not hear this in my car. I will not hear this from afar. I will not hear this in my house. I will not hear this, nor will my spouse. I do not like this, Bill-I-Am.

(Oh, and I can't stand the Shawn Colvin cover either. {#Stop})

Gnarls Barkley is a better version.
Good one for playing this version though Bill, always goo to hear something new, once.

My ears, they bleed.
Holy Crap Batman! What is that awful noise?
Love the Femmes - but this is CRAP
I rarely take the time to rate bad music but when it is this bad I have to!!!!
BillG, you know I luv you and your taste...That said, this is dreadful...Seriously, someone call Bill Murray and inform him that the Violent Femmes have stolen his lounge singer act.
how many covers are there of this song?  who'd've thought gnarls barkley was so influential.
{#Frustrated}

I think this is crazy.

 . . . the remake is fuel injected and with a bit more soul and sass

I'm beginning to think there is no original version of this song. Just way too many goddamned covers.

Violent Femmes - Crazy
Gnarls Barkley - Gone Daddy Gone

very cool line up.   I guess they are fwends?

Me, too. I think it took guts, moxie, cojones, a fairly well-developed sense of self, and a HUGE sense of humor to even try this one. Hats off to the Femmes.

I actually like this one.
and thanks again to rp for playing stuff that not everybody out there is wild about
Who did the original version of this?

not crazy about this one at all
Compared to the energy on their first two Albums - they've lost it! Sorry to say that about a former favourite band...
No, honey, NO. {#No}
{#Doh}
What's with everyone remaking this song? This is at least the 4th version I've heard.{#Stupid}
Gawd this is wretched!

As moving and captivating as the GB original was, this is just wrong.
maybe a little bit too cute... but understandable...
maybe I'm crazy, but I could live without covers.
Both songs are pretty good and I find the tongue in cheek humor outstanding.
I guess Gnarls Barkley wins this cover battle.  (Even though the Fem's Gone Daddy Gone is better than the cover).
I like the mandolin and flute... does the original have mandolin and flute in it?  Frank would be pround.
Turn-about is fair play, I say.
this set made me happy!
Very clever, Bill.
I am not sure what it is.. the fact the Fem's did this cover or the fact that I am in the minority and like the song "crazy" that was made popular by Gnarls Barkley... but I think this cover is "quite likeable"!

No sir, I don't like it. {#Puke}
It works as sarcasm, I guess.  Music?  Not so much.

Nah - to me, that one was at least funny because the original was so ridiculous to begin with, and the cover emphasized that. Maybe people are irritated that the Gnarls Barcley (sp?) version was overplayed or something, so even though (IMO) it was a great song to begin with, because it was overplayed the cover is warranted. I don't know. I loved the original, and even though I like the Violent Femmes, I am definitely NOT a fan of this cover.

I HEREBY DECLARE ALL COVERS OF SONGS RECORDED WITHIN FIVE YEARS OUTLAWED.

Herein on any artist that covers a song within five years of the original recording date will be 'artistically shot, killed and skinned' their hides will be tanned mechanically and used to adorn the 'anti-cover temple of the universe' and all proceeds will be grated to those artists who make even the smallest attempt at originality.

Ray Lamontagne does a great cover of Crazy.
"Crazy" is the kind of song I like the first few times, and then, 6 months later, I wonder when finally the rest of the world will be fed up with it. The cover is humorous and gives at least some relieve from that overplayed original.

Bleh.  Now I'm done with you.

Hey someone else noticed! hehe

This is really painful to listen to.  {#Puke}

God, these guys are still so good after all these years. Why haven't I heard more Femmes over the years?

If you knew how hysterically funny someone from Naperville making those claims is, you'd bust a keyboard key laughing.

This particular tune probably won't have much shelf life, but the Femmes are a hoot no matter what they perform.

a) it's not "crazy", it's "CRAAAAAAAA-ZAAAAAAAY". Note the extra A's

b) to not sing the laugh is CRIMINAL

otherwise, pretty fun cover

{#Surprised}you're all fucking nuts!!

At first I thought this was Midnight Oil unplugged.
This is almost as CRAZY as Gnarles Barkley covering the Femmes at Summerfest this year. It was his best received tune for sure, but obviously they've got a huge local appeal....

I'm hating the funky 60's flute riffing...

Maybe they should have covered the Patsy Cline song.
Since you're in a "Crazy" mood, please play Gnarl's Barkley's cover of Radiohead's "Reckoner"....most excellent!
Horrid... just horrid.
MOAR CRAZY COVERS PLX.
Have been waiting to hear this song! It was worth the wait.

Had no idea people like Excelsior existed before reading your comment. Makes RPG addicts look somehow sane. Scary.

{#Dancingbanana_2}  I don't understand most of you!  The Femmes ROCK!  The song ROCKS!  The Femmes doing this song......ROCKS!!

Oh yeah I forgot bout that. Perhaps this is why the cover was presented.{#Mrgreen}
{#Drunk} All I can say is Awesome.  Adds a little edge to that icky old song. {#Think}
I think the Femmes are Crazy for doing this. Kinda funny though, I thought it was Richard Cheese at first.

The original cannot be touched, because Gnarles just has a humourous touch in his voice. Don't know how to explain it, but it has a happy feel to it.
OK earlier today Shawn Colvin's cover of Crazy and now this - WHERE'S GNARLS?
I really dislike this version!
how many remakes of this song are there?  none I've heard so far come even close to sounding as good as Gnarles...he really does sound crazy!
What a stupid, gimmicky cover.
lovin it
I was in the kitchen washing an apple. Didn't think I was hearing what I was hearing. {#Lol}
Play it again!

HY-sterical! {#Lol}
Absolutely perfect!
This is intolerable!!  {#Puke}

haha, nice turnabout, Femmes!

Now this is what a cover should be. A completely different take on the song. Right on.
