Love has been the cause
Of all this suffering
And what has been our loss
Has been it's gaining
So lay your burdens down
And stop your crying

Will we let it burn
Burn us down, burn us

Low have been the odds
Of our reuniting
And where now can we turn
When we've got nothing

Will we let it burn
Burn us down, burn us
And maybe it'll turn
Us around

Thanks for that, I was curious.

I can also see the 'dirge' like comparisons, except I find it wonderful and moving.

Great song, well executed

No, it's just something that you don't understand....

My wife got it right with her comment from the next room ... "this guy's full of heaviosity".  Ugh.
Generally like this band but I  wish he'd sing just ONE happy song. Just ONE{#Beat}
Unusually awesome and matches my understanding of good music
A dreadful dirge?

Hit the PSD.
Reminds me a bit of Gov't Mule, with the guitar by Pink Floyd{#Bananajam}
the best track I've heard for the last time {#Yell}

Love this. The movie (Once, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Swell_Season) is also great: quirky, offbeat, especially interesting if any part of you is a musician.

Is that a real drum?

As for suicide, gimme Celine Dion any day and I'll launch myself under a train.

Lots of "sounds like" comments.   I am ALWAYS hearing Soundgarden here.
I feel the same, Proclivities, about sad songs. Musically, this song is a dirge! But lyrically, this song is much more than a sad song, as I hear it:

"Love has been the cause
Of all this suffering
And what has been our loss
Has been it's gaining...

Will we let it burn
Burn us down, burn us
And maybe it'll turn
Us around"

I don't think I can say this without offending some folks, and perhaps even sounding preachy. Oh well.
Love is all about loss.
(For example: to have a successful lifelong relationship, you (only) have to lose some of your ego to your partner).
There is one guarantee in life: that you will lose everything and everyone that you love, in the end.
The punch line to God's cosmic joke is that we are only love, really.
Surrender to love, and the world is your beloved.

Love it! Great, haunting guitar!!  {#Guitarist}
Actually. I might think I believe I just like this track.
Ok Bill, follow this with King Crimson's Epitaph and you can be the biggest mass-suicider* since Jonestown.

Frames fans, is that Glen on screaming lead guitar or someone else.

PS - met Glen briefly at PJ20 - nice guy. Great performer
Very nice song! Just what I needed!
F'n love this tune! Very cool laid back sound with a raw touch!! Awesome full blast with headphones, 2am after a heaving night!

I don't think that is a bad thing, I think that is a compliment.  Think about where the "Blues" got its name.  Being down and out and all.  Just knowing other humanoids feel pain is comforting.  Yes, I have been in pain.  Often.  So?

I've found a greater appreciation for this tune after reading how much it seems to trouble some of the people who post negative comments about it.   There's something to be said for that in a song.

Agreed!  This isn't my favorite Frames tune, but I still love the lyrics in particular.

The suicide set.
I'm hearing hints of Presence-era Zeppelin.
JUST WONDERFUL!

I was certain to hear the BLACK KEYS,
when hearing the great tune for the first time!
From a "5" to a "7"...more listens are helpful. I like the overall feel and atmosphere this tune generates.
Wonderful!
Nice segue from the previous (Sixteen Horsepower) tune.

GREAT!
Sounds like the snare drum head has a crack in it.  Need to get that replaced, dude.
Grunge guitar......very good moody sounds throughout..I'm often just leaving myself notes when I comment only later to return and buy various tracks.  {#Arrowu}

You say that like it's a bad thing. It hurts so good!

I like the instrumental section chords. Kind of ominous. The rest is draggy. Growing on me though...
BLACK KEY KNOCK-OFF?
VICE VERSA?

But that's unfair to ask,
since it sounds definitely GREAT!

As for the song, it's a dirge. It sucks the life out of the party.

Cheers.

{#Roflol}Makes sense. Reminds me of how useful towels are (Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy).

No, you'd not play this at a party, unless it were an emo party, but it is a very moving 'dirge' and gives me goose pimples. Best not to listen to it when you're really down, mind. 8 from the Nottingham jury.

+1 for dreadful

Man, I just cannot believe how this song has grown on me.

I really don't care for this song.  It just brings me down every time I hear it.  {#Frown}

wow, sort of played woven hand (16 horsepower) next to this, nice
Is it just me, or does this remind you of Led Z also? It's good.
What is it about today? This songs segues perfectly from Madrugada—-wow, I would have had Woven Hand next in the set.
No? well, that would've been perfect.
Wiki says he's the guy from the movie "Once," if I sped read that right.

You can hear Talk Talk as a possible influence. Well, at least I can. Great stuff.

Ok, I'm a hypocrite.  I commented on a prior Sarah Slean song that it plodded and felt that it detracted.  Here, this cut obviously plods, but it's essential and adds. . . I love this song. . .

I'd say it depends on what kind of a party you'r at. But otherwise clearly this is not a pop tune for playing loud at most parties. So what?!?

Love The Frames.  Glen Hansard is one of the better rock songwriters, yet still unknown despite winning an Oscar.

Try their album "Burn The Maps," it's a good way to get introduced to The Frames.
This is terrific.  You hear the influences but you hear the originality.  Well done. I'm interested.
YUMMY
The Frames?  Who the hell are The Frames?  Love that guitar.  Wait.  *scroll*  A violinCool!

I find this quite a likable song, though it is apparently not for everyone.  It's interesting that even some of the negative comments for it engage the processes of quantification and empirical reasoning.  Well, that's better than just writing "It sucks".

Papernapkin,  Can you imagine a typical fella adopting a handle of "Papernapkin"?  :)

I'm sure there is an empirical reason why I should like this song, but I haven't figured it out yet.  Emotional = yes.  Powerful = Um, probably.  Demonstration of musical prowess = Ok.  Enjoyable = Negative.

Sorry - too much pathos for me.
I just recently came to the realization that his voice sounds strangely like Marianne Faithful's.
a little crazy horse.....  {#Cowboy}
What a perfect song.. tremendous!!
Whoa... is there anything that Glen Hansard can't do?
Yeah it is a violin, actually Camper van beethoven used to do this type of work in their live shows. Get Neil Young feelings, not Floyd and maybe Trower. It's good.
Pass me a razor blade, I want to slit my wrists..... I like the slightly Floyd sounding violin solo but the rest of the song... oh dear.

This song really sucks the life out of a party. It's a warm evening here in Northern California. We were doing fine until this came on. Now we're listening to 'Arms of Woman' by Amos Lee instead. Peace.

See where you're coming from on that. First time I've heard it (yeh I love RP for that) and it sounds pretty classy.

"maybe it'll turn us around" - let's hope so, eh?
drums remind me of a song from the first album of The Cure, some parts of the song remind me of Kravits (including the voice) and some of Radiohead: anyone else? Nice song!
