I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind
There was something so pleasant about that place.
Even your emotions had an echo
In so much space

And when you're out there
Without care,
Yeah, I was out of touch
But it wasn't because I didn't know enough
I just knew too much

Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Does that make me crazy?
Possibly

And I hope that you are having the time of your life
But think twice, that's my only advice

Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are,
Ha ha ha bless your soul
You really think you're in control

Well, I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
I think you're crazy
Just like me

My heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb
And all I remember is thinking, I want to be like them
Ever since I was little, ever since I was little it looked like fun
And it's no coincidence I've come
And I can die when I'm done

Maybe I'm crazy
Maybe you're crazy
Maybe we're crazy
Probably

Uh, uh

A good cover, overall...not as good as the original, but good. Ray LaMontagne does an amazing cover of this, for those that haven't heard it.
Nice ?? It's better than the original !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and just with a guitar ! Wouah  Bravo {#Bananajam}
Nice, but not electrifying like the original.
I saw an amazing rendition a few years ago at the Vancouver Island Music Festival.  It was the final song of a "workshop" session at the Red Barn (a working barn that, with the addition of a few hundred chairs, annually turns into a concert venue  for the VIMF).  Roy Forbes, an iconic BC boomer, did a spine tingling version accompanied by 2 or 3 young bands.  In the middle of the song, one of the young band members yelled at the crowd "This is amazing, get off you asses!"  The crowd agreed and instantly jumped to it's feet.
First time I have heard RP play Shawn, aren't there 57 better songs she has recorded? This is a filler track for her.

Yes. Absolutely no need for such a mediocre cover from such a wonderful artist.
Beautiful.

Stick with the original, please
How come I never heard this before? Awesome, just awesome...I think I just developed a crush on this woman...I think I need to get out more...
Acoustic, stripped down versions allow the lyrics and the meaning to rise to the fore.
Imagine if she's written it, and Barkley and taken it and teched it up.
I like Shawn Colvin, but this one should have been left in the can.
Wow!  I love these "unorthodox" covers of well known songs Bill plays so much, and this is just CRAZY! amazing.

I need to hear Mad World again now.

Cover Girl!

Gnarlz all the way, but this isn't bad
She sort of makes it sound like a serious song.
This remake makes me Crazy. I didn't like the original because it made me crazy.  It's crazy having to listen to this.  The world is just Crazy!
I like it, I think..... I know I like Shawn Colvin, that fine, strong fingerstyle lends itself to this song very well.

My gripe is that she sings the song with the same inflections as CeeLo, all except for the title word Crazy should be pronounced "Crazay" or even "Crazaeh", not "krazeee" like Paty Cline.   I know its just artistic interpretation, but I think it is a key but subtle part of the song which has been changed and not for the better.
a seven.
Oh look, next song, its Patsy!
I think that this is really carried by the fact it is a very very good song. Given all the options for expression, more interesting choices could have made for a cover.
This is better :-)

I like the fact that there's no consensus on this cover. Some love it, some really don't.
I'm in the neither-nor category of those who think the effort is sincere and not to be disguarded. I didn't know Ms. Colwin but think that her talent is pretty obvious.

That said, this cover doesn't work for me either. The Gnarlz Barkley version sends shivers through my spine; Colvin's version doesn't make me feel something new with the same music and lyrics. Not the way some covers of some great songs have.

(Damn... I hoped that, as I was typing, an example of a cover I loved would come to my mind, which it didn't...)

Anyway, I like to *know* this cover exists and thank Bill for playing it, *even* if it doesn't blow my mind.
A worthy and humble try (which would be my apreciation of this cover) is better than a lame and self-satisfied disaster (oh, I won't even start.... not worth naming those.)
One woman, one guitar, and one voice.  Can't beat simplicity — 8
I was all ready to not like this version. Glad I listened with an open mind first. I like it!
Can't complain.  Great songs deserves attempts at good covers.
We recently saw her and Mary Chapin Carpenter. They were performing favourites and many covers of others too. It was excellent.

I loved how Ann always seemed to have the last word. Me, I like the Violent Femmes' version.

I don't care who performs this song, it's awful.

Unique approach to a song i'm sure she knew she would get a lot of flak for.

I appreciate these observations.  I too really disliked that "hahaha - bless my soul" in the original because it seemed like nonsense filler, but it is an otherwise great song.

I agree totally, really like this version.
The year I went to Lolapalooza, I saw this same song sung by Gnarls Barkley, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Raconteurs.

every version I've heard of it sounds good, even if I'm not a fan of the particular artists style.
It just sounds good.

No sarcasm meant - I honestly thought the singer's name was Gnarles Berkely. Thanks for putting me right. I still prefer this cover to the original, perhaps because the original's been way overplayed on radio, perhaps because she's got a really nice voice. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

Great interpretation

Kudos to her...
laughable!

Is this the Nerd playing on her guitar on the highschool-dance?
look, knowing absolutely about this Shawn person, I really like this cover, it's sung with feeling and just shows how a great the song actually is, that it can be sung like this as well. Still prefer the gnarles one though.

Here's one cover I like. The understated tone and the minimalist accompaniment are quite refreshing.

The Gnarles version is catchy and makes you tap your feet even if he's not a stellar vocalist and the song is quite simple.

It didn't need to be covered. This is not an improvement...this is boring.

The Led Zepplin version rocks, though.

I like the original version for some strange reason (Gnarls Barkley is usually not my cup o' tea), but I really like this one, too. This version is darned near a different song. IMHO.

The original is one of the best tracks of the past ten years. Fact. This version doesn't add much to - say - Ray LaMontagne's version, but it's great to see a strong track rise above it's deceptively simple dance origins. By the way - the song reflects a personal experience. Make a difference?

 hippiechick wrote:

Maybe Bill should do a set of "Crazy" covers. I think there are now three on here...this one, Violent Femmes, and Ray LaMontagne. Then, maybe cap it off with the original (or start with that one...either way).

In what seems like another lifetime, I had a disc that had every conceivable cover of La Bamba on it.  Everything from Los Lobos to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  I half-way expect that for Crazy... any day now...

Love it. 9 Why do people get so upset about artists covering other artists work? Let's face it folks some musicians are better songwriters than performers, and vise verse, so please, listen to covers with an open mind.

Like my self, almost all musicians learned to play by playing others music. I look at it like this, I play covers and then I change it a bit which covers that cover. I revisit it again and I cover it again. Each musician has there own style, sound, tempo and timing. Please enjoy what ever it may be.

The sign of a good song is when you see it being covered and covered well.  The guitar work suits this version well.  {#Dancingbanana_2}

Well, I get upset about people covering this specific song because the original annoys the piss out of me and I was hoping it would just go away instead of getting covered - but I don't necessarily feel that way about other covers.
If any of the others are like me, it's a bit silly to put all these people on one pile and say they have a closed mind when it comes to covers, or to try to tell them how to appreciate music...

Interesting take.  Thanks for playing it!

Because the original wasn't very good? Covers often improve greatly on the original, and this falls into that category IMO. 7 from the Nottingham jury.
