Well I seen you out there parading
In the streets of your distant land
In your strange caps and clothing
Shouting 'I don't understand'
But you, you look so loaded
It's something I can't feel
But I'm into some GOD action
And maybe yours is real.
'Cause I'm Falling
I need your God on my side.

Well I see you objecting so strongly
To the ways of the liberal disease
And your armchair satisfaction
As you narrow the meaning of free
And I dream of a home that is tidy
And a church full of honey bees
And I wonder about the suppression
That you get when you're down on your knees.
And I'm Falling.
I need your God on my side.

Well I see you thought we could change the world
If we gather round and pray
But it's just like sending one letter
To more than just one place
But 'Dear God can you help us'
Must be the opening phrase
'Cause we're falling
Need your God on my side.
One I can call my own.
I need my God on your side
Make a happy home.
We need their God on our side
In search of him I will roam
Need our God on our side
Mine got up and left home
You need our God on your side.

We could certainly use more World Party / Karl Wallinger on Radio Paradise!

Sounds (and moves?) like Jagger.

I wonder: is it me, or is Bill playing more political-social justice tracks these days? Because it's impossible to miss a line like:

and not be struck that it rings far more truly now than when it was written way back in 1990, when — Bush the First was our Vader.

Seeing as how we have quite the choice, perspective depending, when it comes to Vaders these days, I could see that being possible and beneficial.
sony ss1800, selenium 15 pwt? in sound dynamics cabinets on 7b's and 1.5tcarver, so raw
sounds good on this end thanks

I agree with jbunniii.  I too can't believe that this album was from 26 years ago.  It has stood the test of time in my collection.  Love Karl and World Party.
I saw them a couple of years ago and they were fantastic.  Karl, the guitarist from The Blockheads, and a bass player.  He does most of the music on his albums himself, like Winwood or McCartney do sometimes.

I thought that was what was playing until I turned the volume up a bit.

He is touring again to small venues. Saw him last year and it was fantastic. Voice is perfect as ever.
Is this a Moody Blues cover band?
One of my first CDs ever (after a reluctant conversion from vinyl). Excellent all the way through. Despite having "Party" in the name, I believe Carl Wallinger did the whorl thing himself.
"Goodbye Jumbo" is a good album!
What a perfectly horrible and boring song.  I feel like a kid forced to listen a Latin Mass.  Ugh.

Yeah, that's in there, but I hear Billy Joel singing "Piano Man."

And maybe that's just me.

They go to the same place, but I think if you actually click on the RP link Bill gets a (probably small) cut.
Wow, blast from the past. What an album this was - not my favourite track by far, but enjoying the flashback reminder.
I'm hearing Robbie Robertson singing "Danville Train."  But maybe that's just me

James Richard (J.R.) Perry would like for Americans to think that God is on his side.

Great album, this one.

Me too. This one's definitely J. Lennon homage.

nothing. ever. bad. fromt these guys.
These may have been posted before but I felt the need to post them again so that those who would jump to conclusions because of the mention of God could maybe gain a little clarity.

Hard to believe this album is almost 20 years old.  Still as great as the day I first heard it!
Good band with intelligent lyrics
hm.
I can't listen to much from this album anymore, but this one has held up well.  I had forgotten about it.  8

Did you actually listen to the lyrics or just jump to an ill-informed conclusion based on the song title? This is hardly a song promoting religious indoctrination, or as you so eloquently put it "indroctonisation" (huh?).  If anything it's just the opposite. Wallinger is just voicing the musings of an average shlub looking at this messed-up world and searching for something to believe in. (IMO)

I bought a great World Party album on vinyl way back in '90 called Private Revolution, haven't listened to it in years, really good to hear them again.

Great song from one of my favorite CDs by one of my favorite artists!

Has anyone heard Peter Gabriel's Big Blue Ball? I have been tempted to pick it up just because of Karl's involvement on the CD.

I would try ebay.

I love this album! I haven't listened to it for forever. Think I have to pull out of my CD collection and get it on my iPod. Thanks for reminding me Bill!

Thanks Bill...everytime you play "Is it Like Today" I think how nice it would be to hear World Party. One of the best surprise concerts I went to in '92!

Great melody. Karl is da man.

This just in, God is no longer on my side. I forgot that back in highschool (private NON-Denominational) we played soccer against bradenton christian. When we were up 6 to 0 I remember hearing "At least we have god on our side" from the other bench. So I guess god hasn't been on my side. That and I don't believe in god (so that would be pretty odd if he was on my side). And as I said before does not mean much since we won 7 to nothing.
I think it may say in the bible somewhere.... probably a good guess on a bad day..."No one knows the mind of God" and other wise thoughts of exactly that ilk...words to live by.

Quite the dissappointment from World Party.

Pet Soundsy!
Saw World Party (among a few others) last Saturday night in Columbus. It rained almost all night but WP sounded great! Nothing like dancing in the rain!
Man, I haven't played the 'Jumbo' album in years. What a great 'knock-upside-the-head.' The whole album's great and was sorely overlooked back in the early 90s. I remember getting a carousel CD player around 91 and this disk stayed in the tray for months. Thanks for reminding me, RP. -- and the Beatles influence has always been there, and though I can hear how some can hear a tinge of Queen influence, I always heard shades of early Stones. I hear in Wallinger's singing style more Jagger influence than Lennon.

I agree with the Queenesque harmony, plus I dectect a hint of Beatles from A Day in the Life off Sgt. Peppers. SOunds like we are tasting wine here.

Well hell. I just listened to this whole album twice and I still don't hear the "Queen" resemblance. Guess it's just a matter of perspective. But if you're pining for something that reminds you of Merucury, I'll give you the same advice I gave folks earlier... Get Spilt Milk by Jellyfish. Their album Bellybutton is pretty decent too, but the former is a much better album IMO.
A good, not great song, and not the best song on the album, but Goodbye Jumbo is on my all-time top-ten list.
I don\'t hear Queen in this song...I hear Cream.

Agree about World Party, but I am not that into the Waterboys, Karl Wallinger's early involvement notwithstanding. I do like The Return of Pan, though.

Queen? To each his own. This is one of the finest albums of the 90's; solid. I would very much like to also hear "Is It Like Today" from, if I'm not mistaken, BANG. That may well be Wallinger's finest moment.

Wow, another song from one of my all-time favorite albums!!

Jellyfish a Queen ripoff? In my memory they sounded like a nineties version of the Beach Boys. But ok, back to World Party.

Really enjoy Karl Wallinger\'s vocals and just about anything that World Party does.
