Yummy.  Been way too long since I've heard this one.  More airplay please!
This album is a colossus
So much better than nearly everything Coldplay ever put out....

I saw two different Interpols: one in their own concert in a small place, an excellent, vibrant and flawless performance - a great show with an energetic audience; the other at U2 concert: apathetic, scared (maybe), uncomfortable band - the audience (most of them) were indifferent to their show - they were just waiting for U2 - and the place was HUGE.

What I guess is they don't have the same (good) feedback from the audience in the U2 concert compared to their own event and that reflects on their performance.

Totally dig this song... and the album.

Good stuff.

Fantastic!

This is a pretty decent album.  One track really stands out on it in my mind, and that is NYC.  Not played on RP though.
From when Interpol was making compelling music.
A solid 9!

Coldplay I don't get either...I hear Sigur Ros and Radiohead. This is a great song.

Hadn't heard that one in quite a while. This just went from an 8 to a 9.

Yes. For me too.
I've really liked their albums - I'll have to give them another chance live. Glad you saw a good show; it sure is disappointing when things backfire! stevesaw wrote:
Saw them last weekend and I thought they were great! They played a good mix of new and old and it was a long set. They don't do a lot of jumping around and such - NYC cool I guess - but I really enjoyed it.

i agree. the simplicity and the brief appearance of lyrics is one of the things i like most about this song. it leaves it up to the listener to do most of interpreting about the "surprise." crazy... i was just listening to this song not two hours ago!
Stating the obvious - music as imaginative as the title.
This song is amazing, love everything about it...perfect

As good as their albums are...Paul Banks can't seem to pull it together live. I hope they pull it off when I see them again in August!

I didn't see your reply until today - How did they do? speedbump wrote:

Huhh? Maybe you meant a blatant Joy Division rip-off. If so I totally agree ;)
I will always love this album. So many strong memories tied to it. Thank you Bill
Lots of beef from people about this song down there! I prefer this album over their 2nd album, and this song, Stella, and whatever track #2 is called are the best songs on the album, in my opinion. Only shame was that the opening snippet of this track was used for the gimmicky Joey/Rachel kiss scene in "Friends," which was traumatically cheesy...
I hear awesomeness!
In my humble opinion, it's their only good song. But man, what a song.
This is rad.

I like some of interpol, but I always think that the guitar player learned to play listening to the solo in Neil Young's "Down By The River", and figured if one note was good enough for Neil, it was good enough for him.
There's more heart in a one note Neil Young solo than in some peoples entire catalog.

Perhaps they should have titled it, though.

Maybe a name with no song woulda been better !

Seeing how I am just now working through the initial chapters of Mel Bay's 1st grade guitar book, this could be a good song to play. If it's on the first or second string, all the better!
MAKE IT STOP....OH PLEASE!
guat is dis?

LOL Having said that, I love the song
Blatant Church ripoff.
not very exciting

I like the restrained power of this.

LOL...great line. Having said that, I like the song a lot and Interpol is growing on me in general.
wow...listen to the first 15 seconds of this song...and you've pretty much heard the whole song.

even the hearing impaired can throw in their two cents.. this is like coldplay the way calexico was like aaron carter. interpol are just really quite something else. this album is great overall but with amazing highpoints like NYC and stella their second album is possibly even better (or as pvcnote might say, more like Keane)

Your comment is more repititous than the song which suggests an inner conflict. Great song, dark, deep band full of disturbing emotions. Similar to very, very early Cure's album "Faith". I have both their albums and they are both very listenable. Especially during the winter, driving at at night on lonely country roads.
Some very interesting sounds here, bravo.
One of my favorite "newer" bands..Very good tune.Sounds like the offspring of Mazzy Star and Radiohead :)

This is such a solid album...it is truly an album, rather than a random collection of songs -- rare these days. And this first track is indicative of the subtle, slow, build that characterizes what comes after it.
I like some of interpol, but I always think that the guitar player learned to play listening to the solo in Neil Young's "Down By The River", and figured if one note was good enough for Neil, it was good enough for him.
only catching the end of this song, but whew. going to have to hear it all someday.
I bought this album when it came out, never really got into, but now, at 2:30AM, I am actually able to concentrate on this song, and WOW! I like it.
Nice tune.
Coldplay once more????????? Please stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn this is a fine album.
Hipnotic
i'm not surprised they couldn't bother to name it.
the monotonous single note happening here is bothering me. it gets worse when they bend the pitch into something uglier. :(
I seem to have missed the point of that one. Maybe next time.

again.
Occasionally I buy a CD with absolutely NO knowledge of the band's music. Such was the case for "Turn on The Bright Lights" by Interpol. I trusted the word of a low-wage store clerk. My risk landed me with the CD and "Untitled". Good stuff.
if this song was played for prisoners of war, that would violate the Geneva Convention
As opposed to the vocal minority, I find this song to score big on the diggability scale. And it's by no means their best.

Untitled? ...I wish it was unwritten.
What's up with the different versions of PDA. The one on the album is a little lame, the one I got somewhere else is awesome, much better produced.
Wake me when the song starts.

I love this song but didn't dig the rest of the disc that much. What did I miss?
:D O:) :crown.gif:
Phew! It has been such a good set so far I didn't think I would ever be able to leave RP today (after finishing my work). Well, then those poser Interpol people came on, so it is easy. BYE!!
I found that ending annoying - maybe it's just the project that I'm working on at the moment....
good idea. Definitely more NIN. You can see the influences for sure. warderblu wrote:

Saw these blokes on the telly the other day. Brilliant. They stand so still yet perform magic on their git boxes.
One of my favorite bands. This is one of several outstanding songs on their first record. Check out Obstacle 1, a great rocker.

This is a great album. Friends in the music business worship this album - I had to get used to it a bit, but it is very musical and creative.
