I can see that.  On one hand, it could be about being a lucky person for living life the want they want and everything come out fine.  On the other, it could be about someone who she is attracted to and would want to settle down with, but he's footloose and fancy free, looking for one night stands, so she's bitter about it.  Either way it's a beautiful song.

Old girlfriend of mine went to UHA......I went to a different school slightly south of there, but they were always known for their ability to attract great talent to the area. Plus radio KUHA. Won tickets to a Humble Pie concert at the Shaboo Inne. Sunday night, and 60 people there. I had my beer on the stage, and they played a great show.

I saw Alison and Robert Plant at the NOLA Jazz Fest a year ago.  It was literally AMAZING!  Although she has some kinda strange otherworldly gaze that is a little disturbing.

I'm not a big bluegrass fan when it comes to recorded music though I respect it and the players, but it is a fun musical form to listen or dance to live though. Allison Krauss is on a whole other level beyond the musical form. Her singing is some of the best in any genre, an incredible singing voice that I absolutely love. Her fiddling and the rest of her top notch players in the band take it to another level, like the Beatles of bluegrass or something. I have all her albums, she is a favorite of mine yet playing a musical format I'm not a fan of. And I'd say New Favorite is one of my favorites, the musicianship on that record is astounding. The Lucky One is from that CD originally.

The melody should be credited to Howlin' Wolf's 'Killing Floor' but the lyric is most likely from Robert Johnson's from Traveling Riverside Blues. I say most likely because there was a song recorded in the same year (1937) called "She Squeezed My Lemon" by Arthur McKay so I don't think it's origin is clear.

AK & US always get a high mark from me- her band is tops, and this lineup was stellar. Jerry Douglas, who produced it, has some of the tastiest chops in all musicdom.
