I saw this configuration of the band and fell in love with them.  Second time I saw them they had a whirling dervish which blew my mind.  Very interesting and unique instrumentation.

I found these lyrics on the net.  The poem is by Rumi.  I can't promise they are accurately translated, but I would like to think they fit. 9.

Niyaz-e-Nahan ( The Hidden Yearning)

And...? Is that a problem for you? If so, you're at the wrong radio station. This is not an English radio station as it's not based in England, and it's not explicitly English language. What it is explicitly is "eclectic", and if you don't know what that means look it up. That means that you'll sometimes get non-English language songs.

I'm a big, big fan of DCD and Lisa Gerrard, but she only adapted Middle Eastern music, a bit like Loreena McKevitt adapts Celtic music - this is the real thing, an Iranian band from Iran, and to my ears you can really tell the difference. A bit like a strong espresso compared to instant coffee. It's a bit sad when we end up describing the original as being like the imitation :(

This really hits the spot, and reminds me of times I've listened to iranianradio.com, and blew the cobwebs from my brain. An immediate 8 from the Nottingham jury.

I've been listening now on and off for about 6 hours. I have earmarked for purchases of 7 more tunes from this chunk of music. RP continues to expand my horizons and iTunes Library. Wow. Did this gal sing on any of Agricantus? I found this cool album years ago in a Starbucks store, played it to death. She sounds very much like the singer from that ensemble. Probably a dumb question. She's too young.

I really wish I could undestand the lyrics. Yes, I can read a translation, but there something to be said for hearing them "real time" and the vocal inflections. They've put a poem by Rumi to music, about as far from your violent fantasy as you can get. Nice try, tho. Not sure if this is the poem in question (my Farsi isn't any better than Glockman's), but it's pretty typical Rumi: The Hidden Music My heart, sit only with those who know and understand you. Sit only under a tree that is full of blossoms. In the bazaar of herbs and potions, don't wander aimlessly -- find the shop with a potion that is sweet. If you don't have a measure people will rob you in no time. You will take counterfeit coins thinking they are real. Don't fill your bowl with food from every boiling pot you see. Not every joke is humorous, so don't search for meaning where there is none. Not every eye can see, not every sea is full of pearls. My heart, sing the song of longing like nightingale. The sound of your voice casts a spell on every stone, on every thorn. First, lay down your head then one by one let go of all distractions. Embrace the light and let it guide you beyond the winds of desire. There you will find a spring and nourished by its sea waters like a tree you will bear fruit forever. If you're so concerned about the lyrics, get a dictionary and translate it yourself. Jihad, by the way, in its purest form means a struggle within oneself, which is its main usage in the Koran. Besides, I remember a certain country artist who sang about putting a boot up someone's ass "the American way." Don't be so hypocritical! Anyway, I love LOVE her vocals and the different types of scales that are used by other cultures. The flavor of RP never disappoints in its variety. Go Bill!
