Just saw them play at the Arts Centre on September 27. At the Arts Centre everyone usually sits and listens. That night the place stood up for the whole show. Before and after the intermission. Band was great and Gord's voice was in find shape and his showmanship can not be questioned. Have to see these guys live to appreciate his voice and the band's musicianship. My ears rang for three days. It was a night of blistering, screaming rock and roll. Fully and completely.

I used to really dig TH, and they're not bad, but most of their tunes sound pretty similar.  I do have some fun fuzzy memories attached to them from several years ago—a coffee shop in Amsterdam played them as I was...um...drinking coffee {#Shifty} {#Whistle}

Given that the hip released their 'breakthrough album' one year before Garth released his, I'd say Garth has been trying to sound like a 'country' Gord Downie ever since.  That would assume that they sounded even vaguely alike, which I don't think they do.

I origianlly thought the same, but every Hip album since Up To Here has had to grow on me after the first listen. I love what Gord started doing lyrically from Music @ Work up until the last two, In Between Evolution and World Container, which took a simpler turn. Give 'em all another listen, I promise you you'll hear lots of stuff to love.

Did they do anything past then? I remember a good track they had on a soundtrack (the song was "Edmonton Block Heater", I forget the film). I remember seeing TPOH a number of years ago at a crappy small town bar. I don't know if it's part of his onstage persona but Moe Berg seemed like an incredibly bitter guy. I remember at one point his saying something to the effect of "I had worldwide number one hit and now I'm playing a crappy small town bar to 8 people". Come to think of it, I'd be bitter....

That's the big three of The Tragically Hip. Earlier stuff was good too and after Day for Night,they kind of lost their way. Don't get me wrong, their more recent stuff if great but not quite as accessable. They're also AMAZING live. Pick up their Live Between Us album. Not to be missed.

I first heard the TH on RP, and after a few listens, bought 3 CDs: this one, Road Apples and Day for Night. They're all good, so you can't go wrong.

I love RP because it plays some great Canadian music. I hear better Canadian content than stations up here that are governed by the CRTC. That being said The Hip is not the best stuff on here. Not surprising that a good chunk of the reviewers are fellow canucks... Sorry guys, HIP are a Canadian band who could never really break out internationally.

Damnit. Now I have to go dig out my Hip albums. It's surprising to me, as one who used to live across the mighty Niagara from the Great White North and listen to Q107 and 102.1, that there isn't any Tea Party in the playlist. Thought they would fit in here. Any body have any to upload?
